A complex program for phased, in-place renovation at the Mount Sinai Medical Center resulted in a totally reconstructed Women’s Health Center. The 19,600 s.f. project provides expanded ambulatory facilities in both Gynecology and Obstetrics serving the local community.
Organized around a central reception and waiting area, the Center provides a coherent alternative to the prior congested area. Waiting is provided on three sides of the colorful reception desk. Ceiling coffers and sculptural enclosures for patient education video monitors create a smaller scale image for this active space. The Medical Center’s landscaped plaza provides a backdrop for waiting. Patients proceed through an interview and consultation zone to exam rooms surrounding a core of support and treatment spaces. A patient education classroom, staff offices, and research and conference facilities augment these services.
