An ambitious 4-phase construction program was planned for North General Hospital’s (NGH) Emergency Department. Founded in 1979 as a 200-bed community hospital in Harlem, NGH has reversed its financial losses through a collaborative program with Mt. Sinai Medical Center, just a mile away. NGH contracted with Mt. Sinai for specialist physicians for select services including vascular surgery, urology, and rheumatology. The NGH – Mt. Sinai alliance has had a positive impact on NGH’s bottom line. The Hospital’s Harlem community is enjoying a renaissance which will undoubtedly call more heavily on NGH’s healthcare services.
