The merger of Upper Manhattan based St. Lukes hospital, serving the Morningside Heights area, with Roosevelt Hospital, serving the Lincoln Center area, resulted in a redistribution of beds, support services, and economies in staffing and operations. The 475 bed, new and renovated St. Lukes, and the 635 bed, new and renovated Roosevelt Hospitals have resulted in right sizing of both hospitals and dramatic improvements in delivery costs and in the quality of the provision of healthcare to their respective communities. Norman Rosenfeld, Consulting Principal of Stonehill and Taylor, with Skidmore, Owings and Merrill as Associated Architects developed the master facilities plans and resulting designs for both campuses.
